In the Clouds

In the Clouds

When we say someone has their head in the clouds, we normally mean they are not practical, reasonable, or grounded in what's really going on. When I say in the clouds, I mean three things:

  1. The first is the domain of technology that I operate in. I work as a FinOps lead with a team of eight, and prior to that was a platform engineer who focused on building out reusable, scalable, and value-driven infrastructure in the cloud. Of course, that means I more broadly work in technology, which has an increasing AI focus.
  2. The second is reflections on theology from my seminary background and real-life experience as a lay pastor at my local church. The Lord Jesus ascended into the clouds of heaven and will return as such. This is an homage to the clouds as being where God resides, though I understand he is omnipresent.
  3. The third is thoughts and ideas. These are what drive us and either lift us up like eagles or drag us down like hippos. This will be a place where I gather various musings about life, leadership, growth, and things along those lines with the goal of reaching up, growing, and developing. These are ideas from personal growth, previous career experience, and most importantly as a husband and father in a family of five.

This blog is a place to gather my thoughts across those three domains, with the hope of blessing others as I do so.

A few of my a priori commitments are as follows:

  • I will not use AI to write blog posts (assuming you exclude Wisper Flow and other dictation tools)
  • I will not use real names unless explicit permission is given
  • I will attempt to give credit where it is due when I have been influenced by an idea from someone else

If this journey interests you, with reflections on technology, theology, leadership, and growth, feel free to tag along.
